IFC unveils 2012/2013 season schedule; Includes third season renewal for Portlandia

[A]t the network’s first-ever Upfront event, IFC unveiled its 2012/2013 original programming line-up which includes the return for a third season of its breakout hit series, PORTLANDIA and a second season of WHISKER WARS. IFC also announced the addition of two new scripted comedies: the animated series OUT THERE, and MARON (working title), featuring comedian and podcast phenom Marc Maron; and a new installment of R. Kelly’s hip hopera, TRAPPED IN THE CLOSET. IFC also announced it will premiere its summer originals COMEDY BANG! BANG! and BUNK back-to-back on Friday, June 8, offering viewers a full hour of “slightly off” original comedies.

IFC renews Onion News Network for second season

IFC (www.ifctv.com) today unveiled a robust original series slate for the 2011/2012 season. The line-up includes a second season renewal of the network’s popular news show, Onion News Network, which received strong viewer response and critical acclaim throughout season one, currently airing.

In addition, IFC has green lit four new original series: Commercial Kings from Reveille, Young, Broke & Beautiful produced by 44 Pictures, Whisker Wars produced by Thom Beers’ Original Productions, and Bullet in the Face, created and written by Alan Spencer. IFC also announced two original series currently in development: an untitled variety show hosted by Comedy Death-Ray’s Scott Aukerman and Pointless created by Ethan Berlin and Eric Bryant, which came to IFC through the New York Television Festival.

IFC renews Portlandia for second season

IFC is only three episodes into its original comedy series Portlandia, but the network has already renewed it for a second season. The first season average is a solid 1.1M viewers with 700,000 viewers within the key A18-49 demographic.

New trailer for IFC’s Onion News Network

IFC has released a new trailer for the upcoming cable news parody show Onion News Network. Check out the trailer after the jump.

Onion News Network is scheduled to premiere on IFC on January 21, 2010 at 10PM.
