First Look: Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen in The Hobbit

Courtesy EW, here are our first official looks at Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins and Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey in the two-part feature The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

A third image, featuring Jackson discussing a scene with Freeman, is included after the jump.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is scheduled to hit theaters on December 14, 2012.  The Hobbit: There and Back Again will follow on December 13, 2013. Both films will be released in 3D.

Watch a two minute trailer for Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions three-night event + Ian McKellen on the set of The Hobbit

Filming on the two-part Hobbit project continues, and here’s an image from the set taken by director Peter Jackson featuring actor Ian McKellen (Gandalf) with 3D glasses (the film will be shot and released in 3D).

Also, a two minute trailer for the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions return to theaters has been released. Check it out after the jump. The three-night event begins June 14 with ‘Fellowship of the Ring’ followed by ‘The Two Towers’ on June 21 and ‘Return of the King’ on June 28 at select theaters nationwide. The extended editions will also be released on Blu-ray on June 28.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again (rumored title) is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2012. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (rumored title) follows in December 2013.

Ian McKellen confirms Hugo Weaving’s role in The Hobbit

In an update posted to his personal blog, Ian McKellen has confirmed that Hugo Weaving will reprise his role as Lord Elrond in Peter Jackson’s two-part The Hobbit.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again (rumored title) is scheduled to hit theaters in December 2012, followed by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (also rumored) in December 2013.
