Willow Shields cast as Primrose Everdeen in The Hunger Games

Lionsgate has cast newcomer Willow Shields to play the younger sister of Katniss, Primrose Everdeen in the Gary Ross-directed adaptation of the Suzanne Collins novel The Hunger Games. The actress joins previously cast Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) and Liam Hemsworth (Gale).

Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES are pleased to announce that actor Josh Hutcherson (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT) has been cast in the role of Peeta Mellark, with Liam Hemsworth (THE LAST SONG) joining the film in the role of Gale Hawthorne in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel. Gary Ross’ The Hunger Games set for March 23, 2012

Lionsgate has set a March 23, 2012 release date for Gary Ross’ film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling novel The Hunger Games. There are currently no other high-profile releases set for that date, however, the “Clash of the Titans” sequel Wrath of the Titans opens the following week on March 30, 2012.

Gary Ross will direct The Hunger Games

Gary Ross (“Seabiscuit”) has closed a deal to direct Lionsgate’s adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ young adult novel The Hunger Games. Collins is writing the screenplay. The novel is the first in Collins’ trilogy. “Catching Fire” was published last year and the final book in the trilogy, “Mockingjay”, was released earlier this year.

Gary Ross To Write and Possibly Direct Venom

Columbia Pictures is continuing their relationship with Gary Ross.  Ross, who provided the studio with a rewrite of Spider-Man 4, has been tapped to rewrite the script for Venom and is in talks to possibly direct the project.

Gary Ross will be reuniting with his Seabiscuit star Tobey Maguire.  The screenwriter has been tapped by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios to rewrite the Sam Raimi-directed sequel Spider-Man 4.

The script was originally written by James Vanderbilt, and then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire.
