Conan O’Brien Finishes Well Ahead of Letterman In First Week as Tonight Show Host

conanobrien-061109After falling behind Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday night, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien pulled back in front of the show, although slightly: a 3.2 HH rating to a 3.1 HH rating.  However, NBC has released the key demographic data for the full week and in that measure there was no contest.  The Wednesday number marked the first time the show improved from the night prior since it premiered, indicating that it may have bottomed out.

The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien drew an average 2.3/10 A18-49 rating/share for the week, easily out-rating the 0.9/4 A18-49 rating/share earned by Late Show with David Letterman.

“This is beyond our wildest expectations,” said Rick Ludwin, executive vp, late night and primetime series, NBC Entertainment. “Conan has brought new younger viewers to 11:35 pm and we’re gratified that the demographic trend has continued here in week two, where the early numbers continue to show dominant victories, in all the key categories, for ‘The Tonight Show’.”
