Transformers: Dark of the Moon dropped 52% in its second weekend as it took in $47.103M. That’s a smaller second week decline than ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ which had dipped 61% in its second weekend and is only minimally below the second week drop of the original “Transformers” (-48%). The weekend gross puts the film’s cume at $261.079M making it the year’s top-grossing film (moving ahead of “The Hangover Part II” which cleared $250M this weekend).
The daily breakdown for ‘Dark of the Moon’ is as follows:
- Fri: $14.843M
- Sat: $18.327M (+24%)
- Sun: $13.934M (-24%)
For comparison purposes, “Transformers” was at $224.010M by the close of its second weekend, while ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ was at $293.356M. At the moment, ‘Dark of the Moon’ looks like it’ll close its domestic run with between $350-375M.
Worldwide ‘Dark of the Moon’ is now at $645.079M with $384M from foreign markets.
Debuting in second place with a solid $28.302M was the Warner Brothers R-rated comedy Horrible Bosses. Zookeeper, meanwhile, debuted softer than expected (and more than $10M below Kevin James’ last film “Paul Blart: Mall Cop”–$31.833M) with $20.066M.
Here are the individual day performances for both films:
- Horrible Bosses — Fri: $9.882M, Sat: $10.392M (+5%), Sun: $8.028M (-23%)
- Zookeeper — Fri: $7.365M, Sat: $7.518M (+2%), Sun: $5.182M (-31%)
Rounding out the top five for the weekend was Cars 2 in fourth place with $15.212M ($148.832M cume) and Bad Teacher in fifth place with $8.914M ($78.672M cume).
