Based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs series John Carter of Mars, John Carter stars Taylor Kitsch, Willem Dafoe and Lynn Collins. The film is scheduled to hit conventional and 3D theaters on March 9, 2012.

Synopsis
From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs , whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas(Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.
John Carter is scheduled to hit conventional and 3D theaters on March 9, 2012.

Walt Disney Pictures has released the first poster for Andrew Stanton’s 3D Sci-Fi action adventure John Carter (formerly “John Carter of Mars”). Click over the jump to see the poster in full.
John Carter is scheduled to hit conventional and 3D theaters on March 9, 2012. The film stars Taylor Kitsch, Thomas Haden Church, Bryan Cranston, Willem Dafoe and Mark Strong.

Disney has changed the title of John Carter of Mars. The Andrew Stanton-directed sci-fi adventure film is now called John Carter. Meanwhile, Andrew Niccol’s sci-fi thriller Now has been re-titled In Time.

Walt Disney Studios has announced that they’ve shifted the release dates of John Carter of Mars and Frankenweenie. ‘Mars’ is now scheduled to hit theaters on March 9, 2012 versus the originally scheduled June 8 slot, while Frankenweenie will now hit theaters on October 9, 2012 instead of March 9.

Disney has set release dates for two highly anticipated projects. John Carter of Mars, Pixar director Andrew Stanton’s first live action feature, will hit theaters on June 8, 2012 while Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated feature Frankenweenie will hit theaters on March 9, 2012. Both films will be released in 3D.

MovieScore Magazine has confirmed with Disney-Pixar that Michael Giacchino (“Up”, “Star Trek”) will write the score for Andrew Stanton’s (“WALL•E”) upcoming live-action/animated adaptation John Carter of Mars. Giacchino has had a long-running relationship with Pixar, and just last weekend won an Academy Award for his score to Up.
