Syfy announces Summer 2012 schedule

Featuring a record number of primetime original programming hours, Syfy’s hot Summer 2012 will be highlighted by the premiere of the new unscripted series School Sprits (from executive producer Mark Burnett), Insane or Inspired? and Paranormal Highway (working title) starring Jack Osbourne; new seasons of hits Warehouse 13, Face Off, Alphas, Destination Truth and Haunted Collector, along with the eagerly anticipated Saturday Original Movies Jersey Shore Shark Attack and Bigfoot, plus the series finale of the beloved Eureka.

Bruce Miller replacing Ira Steven Behr as showrunner of Syfy’s Alphas

Bruce Miller (“Eureka”) will join the second season of the Syfy original series Alphas as executive producer/showrunner. Miller replaces Ira Steven Behr who is leaving the show after running the first season.

Alphas concluded its first season this past Monday and was renewed for a second season last month.

Syfy renews Alphas for second season

Syfy’s new super-powered original drama series Alphas, featuring a team of superhuman investigators, will be returning for a second season, it was announced today by Mark Stern, President, Original Content, Syfy, and Co-Head, Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. Syfy is ordering 13 episodes of the breakout scripted summer hit from series producers Universal Cable Productions and BermanBraun Television to air in 2012.

Alphas, Warehouse 13 and Eureka premieres give Syfy most-watched Monday in two years

Sparked by Alphas – the most watched Syfy series debut since 2009 – the channel’s powerful new Monday night scripted programming block of Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Alphas each delivered more than two million total viewers from 8-11:30PM (ET/PT) on July 11.

Syfy has released the promotional poster for Syfy’s Alphas. Click over the jump to see the poster in full.

The series is written by Zak Penn and centers on five people who possess “hyper-normal mental and physical abilities.”” David Strathairn, Azita Ghanizada (Castle), Malik Yoba (New York Undercover), Laura Mennell (Watchmen), Ryan Cartwright (Bones) and Warren Christie (October Road) star.

Alphas premieres with a 90-minute episode on Monday, July 11 at 10PM with subsequent episodes airing every Monday. Penn serves an executive producer alongside Ira Steven Behr, Gailr Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein.

Syfy unveils largest original programming slate in history featuring 14 new series and events

Continuing the sizzling momentum of the Syfy global brand evolution, which has sparked imagination-driven hit series and double-digit growth in younger, upscale audiences as well as diverse new business ventures, Syfy President Dave Howe today will introduce the largest original programming slate in the channel’s 18-year history, highlighted by 14 new original series and events comprising more than 100 hours.

Syfy greenlights Alphas to series

Syfy has enlisted Alphas (working title) to join its slate of original scripted series by greenlighting the wry, action-adventure project from writers Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk) and Michael Karnow, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Content, Syfy and Co-Head of Original Content for Universal Cable Productions. Eleven episodes have been ordered in addition to the 90-minute pilot directed by Jack Bender (director and executive producer of Lost). Universal Cable Productions will produce the series with BermanBraun Television. Executive Producers are Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein for BermanBraun and Zak Penn.
