The 82nd Annual Academy Awards Nominations

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences this morning announced the nominees for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. The biggest part of this year’s Awards telecast is the expansion of the films in the Best Picture category to 10, they include:  Avatar and The Hurt Locker (with each receiving 9 total nominations), The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, Inglourious Basterds, Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire, A Serious Man, Up and Up in the Air.

The five directors nominated for Best Director are: James Cameron (Avatar), Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds), Lee Daniels (Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire) and Jason Reitman (Up in the Air).

On the nomination front, after Avatar and The Hurt Locker,  Inglourious Basterds was the next with the most nominations (8), followed by Up in the Air (6), Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire (6), Up (5), District 9 (4) and Star Trek (4).
