Aaron Sorkin to adapt Steve Jobs for Sony Pictures

Academy Award® winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin will adapt Steve Jobs, a motion picture based on the best-selling biography of the legendary Apple co-founder by award-winning journalist Walter Isaacson, it was announced today by Amy Pascal, Co-Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures. The project is being produced by Mark Gordon, Scott Rudin and Guymon Casady.

Commenting on the announcement, Pascal said, “Steve Jobs’ story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time. There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his hands, we’re confident that the film will be everything that Jobs himself was: captivating, entertaining, and polarizing.”

HBO picks up untitled Aaron Sorkin cable news project

The series centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr., Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, Thomas Sadoski) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements.

The series was previously going under the working title More as the Story Develops.

Moneyball movie trailer

Columbia Pictures has released the movie trailer for Bennett Miller’s Moneyball. The film stars Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Pratt and Kathryn Morris. and is based on the true story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane.

Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin wrote the script.

Moneyball is scheduled to hit theaters on September 23, 2011.

Release Schedule: The Social Network Moved Up to October 1st, Footloose Now TBD + more

Box Office Mojo’s latest update to their release schedule page shows that Sony Pictures has moved up the release of the Aaron Sorkin-scripted / David Fincher-directed The Social Network to October 1, 2010 (from October 15th).  Also worth noting is that Footloose is now TBD at Paramount Pictures, after having an original date of June 18, 2010.  Head on over the jump for more changes.
