Seven Nominees for Visual Effects Oscar Announced; Field Will Get Narrowed to Three

The Motion Picture Academy has announced that seven films are still in the running for the Visual Effects Oscar: Avatar, District 9, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and 2012.

That field will be narrowed down on Thursday evening, January 21st at the Academy’s Goldwyn Theater when each feature will present 15 minutes of highlights.  At that point, the members of the branch will vote for the three nominees that will go up for the Oscar for Visual Effects.  The three final nominees will be announced on February 2, 2010 alongside the rest of the Oscar nominations.  The 82nd Academy Awards will air Sunday, March 7, 2010 on ABC. Oscars Best Picture Field Will Expand to 10

oscar-062509The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences on Wednesday announced that 10 films will be competing for Best Picture at next year’s 82nd Academy Awards ceremony.  The move marks the first time since 1943 that there have been so many contenders in the Best Picture category.

Nominations for the 82nd Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, February 2, 2010.  The event will take place at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood and televised live by ABC on March 7, 2010.
