Nintendo partners with DreamWorks Animation for 3DS content

Nintendo has partnered with DreamWorks Animation to offer Nintendo 3DS owners access to original 3D shorts from the company. The first shorts feature characters from the Shrek and Aliens vs. Monsters franchises and will premiere on the Nintendo Video service this week [via THR]:

Nintendo drops price of Nintendo 3DS to $169.99

Nintendo of America today announced plans to drop the suggested retail price of its portable Nintendo 3DS™ system to $169.99 in the United States, as new games based on some of the world’s most beloved video game franchises head to the system. The new price, down from the suggested launch price of $249.99 and effective Aug. 12, makes an outstanding value even better and sets up a strong holiday season for the system.

Nintendo confirms release of Wii successor in 2012

Nintendo has confirmed that they will be releasing a successor to the Wii (rumored codename Project Café) in 2012. Here’s a brief statement from Nintendo’s Investor Relations page:

Avatar Trailer Breaks Record + Videogame trailer

avatar-082509Reaction may have been decidedly mixed towards the highly anticipated debut of the trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar last week, but the launch was a huge success for everyone involved — most especially who exclusively hosted the trailer.  According to Apple, the trailer became the most-viewed ever on, netting over 4 million streams in its 24 hours and thus shattering the previous record of 1.7 million streams.

Legendary Pictures To Co-Finance “Gears of War” Movie

Variety is reporting that Legendary Pictures has come on board to co-finance and co-produce the videogame adapation of Gears of War, from Microsoft and Epic Games.  The film will be directed by Len Wiseman, and Chris Morgan is writing the script. The film’s being targeted for a 2009 release.

E3 2008: Nintendo Introduces MotionPlus

Ever since the Nintendo Wii was released, many have wondered if we would have truly have a one-to-one experience on the system (for instance, you move a sword, half-way, it moves half-way on the screen). Well, today announced a new plug-in perpheral for the Wii remote, currently called Wii MotionPlus, that “more quickly and accurately” reflect motions in a 3-D space.  Bring on the one-to-one Star Wars Lightsaber game!  The full press release follows after the jump.

Gore Verbinski to direct Bioshock

Universal Pictures has signed Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy director Gore Verbinski to direct and produce an adaptation of the popular video game Bioshock, Variety reports.  John Logan (Aviator) is in talks to write the film’s screenplay.
