Starz won’t renew streaming deal with Netflix

“Starz Entertainment has ended contract renewal negotiations with Netflix. When the agreement expires on February 28, 2012, Starz will cease to distribute its content on the Netflix streaming platform. This decision is a result of our strategy to protect the premium nature of our brand by preserving the appropriate pricing and packaging of our exclusive and highly valuable content. With our current studio rights and growing original programming presence, the network is in an excellent position to evaluate new opportunities and expand its overall business.”

According to reports, Netflix offered Starz more than $300M a year, a significant increase over the current deal which runs about $10M/year.

Netflix announces new pricing structure; DVD and Streaming now separate starting at $7.99/month each (or $15.98/month together)

Netflix Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) announced today it is launching new unlimited DVD-only plans in the U.S. at their lowest price ever– only $7.99 a month for the 1 DVD out at-a-time plan and $11.99 a month for the 2 DVDs out at-a-time plan.

Netflix announces multi-year agreement with Miramax

Netflix, Inc. [NASDAQ: NFLX] and Miramax today announced a multi-year agreement under which Netflix members in the U.S. will be able to instantly watch some of the world’s most loved and acclaimed motion pictures from the Miramax film library. It is the first time Miramax titles have become available through a digital subscription service.

Beginning in June, Netflix members in the U.S. will be able to instantly watch several hundred Miramax movies, with dozens of titles being added on a rotating basis. The movies can be watched on multiple platforms, including TV, tablet, computer and mobile phones. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX), the world’s leading Internet subscription service for enjoying movies and TV shows, and Lionsgate (NYSE :LGF), a leading global entertainment company, today announced a multiyear syndication deal in which Lionsgate has licensed the first four seasons of its Emmy Award-winning series ”Mad Men” to be watched instantly by Netflix members starting July 27, with additional seasons being added annually after they complete airing on their respective seasons on the AMC network.

CBS and Netflix announce two-year licensing agreement for library content

CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS) and Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) today announced a two-year, non-exclusive licensing agreement that will allow select TV shows from CBS’s library, including episodes of ”Medium” and “Flashpoint” as well as full seasons of classics such as “Frasier,” and “Cheers,” to be streamed instantly from Netflix. CBS retains an option to extend the agreement for up to two additional years. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.Beginning in early April, dozens of hit shows from CBS will join the extensive library of television shows and movies available to watch instantly from Netflix for only $7.99 a month.

Netflix and Disney-ABC announce streaming deal

Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) and Disney-ABC Television Group [on Thursday] announced a new licensing agreement between the two companies that will allow Netflix to stream hundreds of episodes from the ABC Television Network, Disney Channel and – for the first time – ABC Family over the Internet.

The agreement, brokered by Disney-ABC Domestic Television, will add significantly to the growing selection of movies and TV episodes that can be streamed from Netflix. Once made available to Netflix from Disney-ABC – which, for relevant programming, will be no earlier than 15 days after initial telecast – episodes can be streamed instantly with Netflix memberships starting at $7.99 a month.

Netflix launches U.S. streaming-only subscription plan + Price increases

With its members now watching more content streamed over the Internet than on discs delivered by mail, Netflix, Inc. (Nasdaq: NFLX) today introduced a $7.99 streaming-only subscription plan in the United States, the first time it is promoting a 100 percent streaming option in the U.S. The plan, which allows members to instantly watch unlimited movies and TV episodes streamed from Netflix to TVs and computers, is available now to both new and existing members.

The company also announced that the price of its popular subscription combining unlimited movies and TV shows streamed instantly over the Internet and unlimited DVDs delivered quickly by mail, with one DVD out at a time, will increase by a dollar a month to $9.99. Prices of subscription plans allowing for more DVDs out at a time will also increase and are detailed at http://blog.netflix.com. Price changes take effect now for new sign-ups and in January for existing members.

Watch Online Now: No Ordinary Family series premiere

StitchKingdom has discovered an online site which ABC has set up to watch the series premiere of the new drama No Ordinary Family right now, well ahead of its September 28 premiere. The site is located at NoOrdinaryScreening.com.

It’s apparently part of a promotion and limited to 50,000 streams. Here are the details:

IMDb Begins Offering Online Streaming of Movies and TV

The online movie, and TV, database IMDb.com (a subsidiary of Amazon.com), has started to offer free online streaming from their library of over 6,000 movies and TV episodes.  The site will also be offering season premieres of NBC shows such as 30 Rock, Chuck and Lipstick Jungle.

Some of the newer shows already offered include Heroes and 90210 just to name a few.
