At AMC’s Television Association panel on Thursday, president Charlie Collier announced that the period series Mad Men will return for its third season this summer. That despite continued contract negotiations between producer Lionsgate TV and creator/executive producer Matthew Weiner:

It seems like a joke, no? Why would Lionsgate be looking for a new showrunner on a series which just had its best ratings ever (while admittedly still low) and became the first basic cable show to ever win an emmy for best drama? At the TCA panel for Mad Men, the show’s creator, Matt Weiner, revealed that the series will air for just four more years. AMC has set a premiere date for the second season of their critically acclaimed original series Mad Men. The show will debut on the network on Sunday, July 27th at 10pm, moving from Thursday nights.
