Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau told the Los Angeles Times that work has begun on the sequel:

The DVD/Blu-ray isn’t due until September 30th, but Access Hollywood got their hands on one of the deleted scenes include on the home video release of the film. Watch the delete scene below.

Although Marvel Studios’ Iron Man was a major success this summer (with over $560 million in worldwide box office and still climbing), the studio has decided to go in another direction with the screenplay. Marvel Studios has announced that they’ve hired actor/filmmaker Justin Theroux to pen the sequel.

Jon Favreau will be returning to direct the sequel to Iron Man. The summer movie season is officially off the ground, as Paramount’s Iron Man debuted to a very strong $38 million through its Thursday sneak peaks and Friday Box Office. The breakdown went as follows: $5.2M on Thursday and $32.8M on Friday.
