IMAX signs 20-film deal with Warner Brothers; Films include Superman, Batman 3 and The Hobbit

IMAX has announced that they’ve completed a deal with Warner Brothers to release up to 20 films in IMAX format over the course of the next three and a half years (2010 through 2013). The deal includes several high-profile projects that are currently undated, including Mad Max: Fury Road, Superman, Batman 3 and The Hobbit (2013).

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to hit IMAX theaters + Final poster

IMAX Corporation has announced that Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will hit IMAX theaters internationally on May 28, 2010, simultaneously with its conventional theater release.  Meanwhile, the studio has released the final poster for the film.  Head on over the jump to read the complete press release and see the final poster in full.

Iron Man 2 Will Get Simultaneous IMAX Release

It may not be in 3D, but fans will still be in for a treat when Jon Favreau’s Iron Man 2 hits IMAX theaters simultaneously with its May 7, 2010 conventional theater release:

“The success of the first ‘Iron Man’ movie catapulted the franchise from the comic books to theatre screens, and we’re excited that the IMAX format will offer fans an even more immersive way to experience the sequel,” said Tim Connors, Chief Operating Officer, Marvel Studios.

Leonardo DiCaprio Will Narrate Hubble 3D

Warner Brothers and IMAX Corporation today announced that three-time Academy-Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio will narrate Hubble 3D.  The film is the fourth co-production between WB and IMAX and comes from producer/director Tony Myers (Space Station 3D).

“I’m thrilled that Leonardo will be guiding our audiences on this incredible journey through the cosmos,” said producer/director Toni Myers. “It’s a tremendous honor to have him as part of the ‘Hubble 3D’ team. His extraordinary gift of connecting with audiences is the perfect fit for the immersive experience of Hubble’s story.”

Hubble 3D will be released in IMAX theaters beginning March 19, 2010, followed by additional IMAX locations on April 23rd, which is timed to the Hubble Space Telescope’s 20th Anniversary. Head on over the jump for the complete press release and to watch the trailer

Toy Story 3 Will Be Released in IMAX 3D + New Clip This Sunday

Star Trek Headed Back to IMAX Theaters for Limited Two-Week Engagement

Abrams’ hit blockbuster Star Trek will be re-released in 85 IMAX theaters beginning this Friday, September 4th.  The film will have a limited two-week run in the large-screen format, cutting out once again just in time for the release of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Star Trek had a strong domestic run this summer, currently sitting at $256.69 million which is tops for the franchise in both overall ticket sales and adjusted for inflation box office (although the film did under perform internationally, taking in just $126.39 million for a worldwide cume of $383.08 million).

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince IMAX Release Delayed Two Weeks

Alice In Wonderland Getting IMAX 3D Release

aliceinwonderland-033109Walt Disney Pictures also announced today, along with IMAX, that Alice in Wonderland, from director Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Mia Wasikowska as Alice, will be released to IMAX theaters simultaneously with the film’s wide release on March 5, 2010.
