Starz cancels Party Down and Gravity

Starz has confirmed to EW that they’ve decided against picking up low-rated dramas Party Down and Gravity.

The network’s executive vice president of programming, Stephan Shelanski, issued the following statement confirming the news: “After careful consideration, we’ve decided not to continue on with subsequent seasons of Party Down and Gravity. We’re grateful to […]

Legend of the Seeker canceled

Last March many of the Tribune Station Group’s markets dropped the syndicated series Legend of the Seeker, but at the time it was reported that the show wasn’t canceled yet and that ABC Studios, which produces the show, would continue to shop it around. FOX cancels 24

FOX has confirmed that 24 will come to a close after eight seasons.  The two-hour series finale will air on Monday, May 24th from 8:00-10:00 p.m. on FOX. Here’s the statement from series star/executive producer Kiefer Sutherland:

“This has been the role of a lifetime, and I will never be able to fully express my appreciation to everyone who made it possible. While the end of the series is bittersweet, we always wanted 24 to finish on a high note, so the decision to make the eighth season our last was one we all agreed upon. This feels like the culmination of all our efforts from the writers to the actors to our fantastic crew and everyone at Fox. Looking ahead to the future, Howard Gordon and I are excited about the opportunity to create the feature film version of 24. But when all is said and done, it is the loyal worldwide fan base that made it possible for me to have the experience of playing the role of Jack Bauer, and for that I am eternally grateful.”

The full press release is included after the jump.

Legend of the Seeker canceled?; Tribune will not syndicate third season

Update: Mike Sussman, One of the writers of Legend of the Seeker, wrote on his Twitter account that the series has NOT been canceled.  Details here.

Original article follows below.

This surprises me.  It’s always difficult to gauge if a syndicated series is performing strongly enough to be renewed, but I assumed the audience level for Legend of the Seeker (2.42 million viewers through 12 episodes) was enough to warrant a renewal.  Well, apparently the ratings weren’t strong enough:

A representative from the Tribune Company is now saying that Legend of the Seeker will not be renewed for a third season.

When e-mailed for comment by KSiteTV and by others, this is what he said:

Dear Craig,

Thanks for your email and for your support of the show. Unfortunately, not enough viewers felt the same way as you and “Seeker’s” ratings do not merit renewing it. I’m sorry.

TV by the Numbers followed up with Tribune and received confirmation that they will not renew the show for a third season due to low ratings:
