NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Conference semifinals are most-watched on record

The NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the first two rounds of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs have averaged 1.06 million viewers, making the Conference Quarterfinals and Conference Semifinals the most-watched first two rounds on record (sine 1994, when cable program data started). On NBC, NBC Sports Network and CNBC, the 2012 Conference Semifinals averaged 1.32 million viewers, making them the most-watched Conference Semifinals on record. More than 39 million total viewers have watched the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs on NBC, NBC Sports Network and CNBC, up 23% vs. last year (32.2).

Season five premiere is most-watched Mad Men episode ever; 3.5M total viewers

Last night, AMC debuted season five of “Mad Men” with a two-hour premiere, which resulted in record ratings making it the most watched episode ever from the series. From 9pm-11pm EST, the network attracted a 2.5 HH rating delivering 3.5 million viewers. This marks a +21% growth from season four’s premiere. Among the core demo of Adults 25-54, “Mad Men” delivered 1.7 million marking an increase of +17% versus the season four premiere. “Mad Men” airs on AMC Sunday nights at 10pm ET/PT.

9 million viewers tune-in to The Walking Dead season 2 finale; Most-watched episode in series history

[Sunday night’s] season two finale at 9pm EST of AMC’s original series, “The Walking Dead” was the highest rated episode in series history. It delivered a 5.8 HH rating delivering 9 million viewers. AMC’s “The Walking Dead” is the number one drama series in basic cable history for key demos including: Adults and Men 18-34, Adults and Men 18-49, and Adults and Men 25-54. The finale grew more than 50% in total viewers over season one.

2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on TBS, CBS, TNT and truTv most-watched tournament in 18 years

CBS Sports and Turners Sports’ exclusive coverage of the 2012 NCAA® Division I Men’s Basketball Championship across TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV is the most-watched tournament in 18 years.

This year’s event is averaging a 5.3 U.S. HH rating through Saturday, up 4% compared with a 5.1 rating in 2011 and an increase of 15% over a 4.6 rating in 2010 (according to Nielsen Fast Nationals). The corresponding average of eight million viewers this year is +3% over last year’s 7.8 million viewers and +14% compared with seven million viewers in 2010.

FX renews Archer for a fourth season

FX has ordered season four of its Emmy® and Annie Award nominated animated series Archer, and FX Productions closed an overall production deal with the series’ Executive Producers, Adam Reed and Matt Thompson, and their animation studio, Floyd County Productions, it was jointly announced by Nick Grad, Executive Vice President of Original Programming for FX and Eric Schrier, Executive Vice President, FX Productions and Head of Series Development for FX.

The Walking Dead’s global mid-season return sets new records with 16.9M viewers

Following last week’s global premieres of The Walking Dead on FOX International Channels’ (FIC) networks around the world, the group today announces record-breaking ratings for the hit’s return. An average of 16.9 million-viewers tuned in to watch the mid-season premiere outside of the US. The show was the highest rated program on pay television of the night in most of FIC’s major markets; winning its time period among all Pay TV. The mid-season premiere of The Walking Dead debuted in 122 countries across Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, speaking 35 languages.

History’s Top Gear delivers record 2.1M total viewers

HISTORY’s premiere of “TOP TUESDAYS'” delivered record numbers for the network with all new episodes of Top Gear and the season four premiere of Top Shot .

The Tuesday, February 14 at 9 pm ET premiere of Top Gear delivered 2.1 million total viewers, 1.1 million Adults 25-54 and 1.2 million Adults 18-49. Among Adults 18-49 it was the best telecast yet for the series.

The fourth season premiere of Top Shot targeted 1.8 million total viewers, 1 million Adults 18-49 and 1.1 million Adults 25-54 (+19% vs. Season 3 premiere).

AMC’s The Walking Dead mid-season two premiere returns with record 8.1M viewers; Strongest drama telecast in basic cable history with key demos

Last night, AMC’s mid-season premiere of “The Walking Dead” became the strongest telecast for any drama in basic cable history against key demos including 5.4 million adults 18-49 and 4.4 million adults 25-54. These results shatter the previous record, which was held by the series two premiere from October 16th with increases of +12% and +6% respectively. The show delivered 8.1 million viewers for its 9pm premiere and delivered 10.1 million viewers for the night (9pm premiere and 11pm and 12:30 am encores). At 10pm, AMC also premiered its newest unscripted series, “Comic Book Men,” executive produced by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy), Charlie Corwin’s Original Media (LA Ink, Storm Chasers, Swamp People) and Elyse Seiden (Red State). The series delivered 2 million total viewers.

Tosh.0 season premiere pulls in 3.1M total viewers; New series Key & Peele debuts to 2.1M total viewers.

No translators needed to understand these numbers. On the night he announced the Tosh Tour Twenty Twelve, Daniel Tosh returned to COMEDY CENTRAL for the 4th Season Premiere of “Tosh.0” and recorded the series’ biggest premiere among young men, dominating the night across all of television. Immediately following “Tosh,” new sketch series “Key & Peele” provided the all-comedy channel with its biggest series launch since 2009.

“Tosh.0” drew 3.1 million total viewers to its season premiere, along with a 2.3 adult 18-49 rating, 4.1 men 18-34 rating and a 4.6 men 18-24 rating. A huge hit with young men, “Tosh.0” was the #1 series in Prime on Tuesday night across all of television with men 18-34 and men 18-24, scoring the best rating among men 18-24 for any of the series’ season premieres.

Scoring COMEDY CENTRAL’s best launch since 2009, “Key & Peele” drew 2.1 million total viewers to its series premiere and also resonated among young men, earning a 2.6 men 18-34 rating and a 3.3 men 18-24 rating to finish as #1 in its timeslot with both demographics across all of television. For the night, the inaugural episode of the new hit series finished behind only “Tosh.0” in all of television for Tuesday Prime among men 18-24. In addition, #KeyAndPeele was the #1 trending topic on Twitter during its premiere play.

37.8M watch President Barack Obama’s 2012 State of the Union

President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union address.  The address was carried live from 9:00PM to approximately 10:15 PM on 14 networks.  The sum of average audience for those networks was 37,752,613 viewers, with a combined household rating of 24.0.  The networks carrying the address were ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNBC, CNN, FBN, FOXNC, GALA, MSNBC, MUN2 and on tape delay on TEL, TF and UNI.
