NBA Finals delivers highest-rated, most-viewed Game 1 ever on ABC with 16.2M viewers

The 2012 NBA Finals – Oklahoma City Thunder defeated Miami Heat to take 1-0 series lead – delivered the highest-rated, most-viewed Game 1 in ABC history. It generated a 9.9 household rating, 16,195,000 viewers (P2+) and 11,318,000 household impressions, all records, according to Nielsen.

The records surpass the previous marks set for Game 1 of the 2004 Finals – Detroit Pistons at Los Angeles Lakers – 9.8 rating, 15,352,000 viewers and 10,634,000 households. Last night’s game was also the highest-rated telecast of the night, propelling ABC to win the night across all networks (broadcast and cable) in viewership, household impressions and all key demos.

Showtime announces eighth and final season of Weeds

The show that introduced America to a pot-dealing soccer mom and changed the face of the network is sparking up its final toke: after eight unforgettable, jaw-dropping seasons, WEEDS is coming to an end. SHOWTIME will air the final 13 episodes beginning Sunday, July 1st at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. In addition, the series will achieve a much-coveted television milestone: the 11th episode of the season will mark the series’ 100th. J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Sequel to launch in IMAX 3D and feature key sequences filmed with IMAX cameras

IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX) and Paramount Pictures Corporation, a unit of Viacom Inc., today announced that the sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 blockbuster Star Trek, will be released in the immersive IMAX® 3D format on May 17, 2013. The film represents the second feature in the ground-breaking franchise to be released in IMAX following Star Trek, which grossed more than $375 million at the worldwide box office.

CNN cancels John King, USA

CNN has announced that they have canceled the 6PM series John King, USA, hosted by John King. The series will end at the end of June and be replaced, at least temporarily, by an expanded three-hour The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

ESPN has highest-rated, most-viewed NBA Playoffs ever

The 2012 NBA Playoffs generated record ratings and viewership on ESPN, led by the Eastern Conference Finals, which delivered the network’s highest-rated, most-viewed NBA series ever, according to Nielsen. It averaged a 6.2 US household rating, matching the highest-rated Conference Finals ever on cable, and was up 44 percent compared to ESPN’s coverage of the 2011 Western Conference Finals (4.3). The series averaged 10,144,000 viewers (P2+), up 46 percent from 2011 (6,939,000) and up 43 percent in household impressions from 2011 (4,987,000).

7.67M watch Belmont on NBC

NBC’ broadcast of the Belmont Stakes, which was won by Union Rags, drew 7.67 million viewers, a gain of 12 percent from last year’s race (6.84 million on NBC), and up 62% from the 2010 race (4.74 million on ABC). Saturday’s Belmont was the most-watched in a non-Triple Crown year since 2005 on NBC, less than one percent lower than the 7.71 million that year, according to official national data provided today by The Nielsen Company.
