Peter Weller joins the cast of J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel + Benicio Del Toro out as villain

Peter Weller has joined the cast of producer/director J.J. Abrams Star Trek sequel.

No details on the role were revealed by Variety, who broke the news, but the part is expected to be that of the previously reported secondary villain, who Variety previously reported as being “someone who’s older and in more of a supporting character” to the part that Del Toro was to be playing. I say was, because Vulture is reporting that Del Toro is out as the villain after his “deal…went asunder last Wednesday after parties couldn’t come to terms over monetary issues.”

The other major new role recently went to Alice Eve. Weller isn’t new to the Star Trek universe. The actor starred in two episodes of the fourth and final season of “Star Trek: Enterprise”.

Star Trek (2013) is scheduled to hit conventional and 3D theaters on May 17, 2013.
