J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel begins shooting January 15

TrekMovie is reporting that J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel will begin shooting on January 15, 2012. Set locations are currently being scouted, including a location in Hawaii that is being considered for a “jungle planet”. Shooting will also take place at a museum in Los Angeles that will stand in for a “famous Star Trek location”, according to TrekMovie’s sources. Additionally, TrekMovie reports that some special effects work has already been completed for the project.

Meanwhile, co-writer Roberto Orci commented on TrekMovie that the script for the sequel is complete and has been turned into the studio. Orci further noted that they are currently on their third draft. The sequel’s script is written by Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof.
