For the third year in a row, a video game in the “Call of Duty” series has broken the record for biggest product launch of all-time. This year’s record belongs to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The Activision-published / Infinity Ward-developed video game sold a franchise-best 6.5M copies (360, PS3, PC, Wii, NDS) in the U.S. and U.K. in its first 24 hours of release, generating an incredible $400M in revenue. That tops the $360M earned from “Call of Duty: Black Ops” in in 2010 and the $310M earned by “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” in 2009.
