Disney’s Real Steel opened in first place at the box office Friday with an estimated $8.55M from 3,440 theaters. The Shawn Levy-directed film, starring Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly, is expected to close its first weekend at $25M+.
The George Clooney / Ryan Gosling political thriller The Ides of March opened in a respectable second place with an estimated $3.45M from 2,199 theaters, en route to what should be a $10M+ opening weekend.
Rounding out the top five were Dolphin Tale in third place with an estimated $2.4M from 3,478 theaters (est. $42.31M total), Moneyball in fourth place with an estimated $2.225M from 3,018 theaters (est. $43.978M total) and 50/50 in fifth place with an estimated $1.781M from 2,479 theaters (est. $13.611M total).
