Steven Spielberg says he won’t release Abraham Lincoln movie until after 2012 elections

In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, director Steven Spielberg revealed that he would not be releasing his Abraham Lincoln biopic until after the 2012 presidential election:

“The movie will be purposely coming out after next year’s election. I didn’t want it to become political fodder.”

Lincoln is based on the Doris Kearns Goodwin novel “Team of Rivals” with an adaptation by Tony Kushner. Daniel Day-Lewis stars as the 16th president of the United States, Sally Field stars as his wife, Mary Todd, and Tommy Lee Jones will play Republican leader and PA congressman Thaddeus Stevens. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also in the film and will play the role of President Lincoln’s eldest son, Robert Todd Lincoln.
