There are various reports on the Internet that NBC will renew Chuck for a fifth season. The low-rated, but adored, spy-fi series has struggled in the ratings this season, but with NBC’s low standing, a pick up wouldn’t be too surprising.
Ahead of its season finale next Monday, Chuck is averaging 5.187M viewers and a 1.7 A18-49 rating. However, ratings have slid quite significantly in recent weeks — down to as low as 4.097M and a 1.3 A18-49 rating — and the season remains down by double-digits from the year prior: 6.133M viewers (-15%) and a 2.2 A18-49 rating (-23%).
There are also rumors that NBC has decided to pick up Parenthood for a third season. Ratings for Parenthood align fairly closely with Chuck among viewers (with an average of 5.344M), but the show has proven to be a stronger draw among adults 18-49 (where it averaged a 2.1 rating this season). On top of that, the series ended its season back in April with an improved 6.319M viewers and a 2.5 A18-49 rating.
In development news, NBC has picked up Prime Suspect, an adaption of the acclaimed British miniseries that starred Helen Mirren along with Steven Spielberg’s musical drama Smash. The former stars Maria Bello in the top spot, while Smash‘s cast includes Debra Messing, Katharine McPhee, Jack Davenport and Anjelica Huston.
