Warner Brothers has confirmed that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard will star in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, however, the two actors will not be playing the roles they were rumored to be playing.
Gordon-Levitt will be playing John Blake, “a Gotham City beat cop” and Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, “a Wayne Industries board member”. The rumor mill had Gordon-Levitt playing either The Riddler or Alberto Falcone, while speculation had it that Cotillard would be playing R’as al Ghul’s daughter Talia.
Both Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard appeared in Nolan’s last movie, “Inception”. Here’s what Nolan had to say about the casting:
“When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience,” said Nolan in a release. “I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again.”
The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to hit theaters on July 20, 2012.
