As previously rumored, Julie Taymor is out as director of the troubled $65M-budgeted musical Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark. The producers announced on Wednesday that Taymor was no longer directing and they have named a new director to replace her and a new writer to re-write the show. Additionally, two new songs will be added by composers Bono and the Edge of U2.
Taymor is expected to remain on the production, but in a smaller capacity. The new director will be Philip William McKinley (“The Boy From Oz”) and playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (“It’s a Bird … It’s a Plane … It’s Superman”) will re-work the script.
