Having just recently announced Jon Chu as director of G.I. Joe 2, Paramount Pictures has now set a release date for the sequel: August 10, 2012.
In related news, the studio has pushed up the release of Martin Scorsese’s first 3D film, Hugo Cabret, from December 9, 2011 to November 23, 2011.
G.I. Joe 2 currently has no competition on that date, although two big releases are slated for the week before: Universal’s “The Bourne Legacy” and Sony’s “Total Recall” remake. Hugo Cabret on the other hand has been positioned against a few wide releases, including the animated Sony 3D feature “Arthur Christmas”, Disney’s “The Muppets” and Fox’s “Rise of the Apes”.
