A USA Today feature gives us our first look at Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel in Fast Five.
Johnson is a new addition to the franchise, while Diesel will be reprising his role as Hobbs — along with Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson. Justin Lin (who directed 2006’s “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and 2009’s “Fast and Furious”) will helm this fifth installment:
“If you’re going to do a Fast and Furious movie, you’ve got to go bigger each time,” says Lin. “People thought it would be impossible to get Dwayne. But he didn’t show up looking to cash a paycheck.”
“That’s pretty amazing, for a star like him to join the fifth part of a franchise. That says a lot about him and the fans.”
Together the four films have grossed nearly $1B worldwide ($955.344M). “Fast and Furious” grossed a franchise-best $155.064M ($353.242M worldwide).
Fast Five is scheduled to hit theaters on April 29, 2011.
