Emma Stone offered role of Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man 3D

Deadline has updated their Spider-Man casting story from yesterday (see here) to report that Emma Stone (“Easy A”, “Zombieland”) has been offered the role of Mary Jane Watson in Marc Webb’s 2012 3D reboot. Here’s more from their updated report:

That leaves the four other actresses I mentioned yesterday (with the possibility they could widen the search) for the role of Gwen Stacy.  Those contenders are Glee’s Dianna Agron, Mia Wasikowska, Georgina Haig and Dominique McElligott. Stacy, played in Spiderman 3 by Bryce Dallas Howard, is a plum part for the first installment of the 3D Marc Webb-directed reboot of Spider-Man, because she is the first love interest of the high school-aged Peter Parker, played by Andrew Garfield. Mary Jane–played by Kirsten Dunst in  the Sam Raimi-directed trilogy–becomes more pivotal in the later installments of the Spidey saga.

Put me in for Dianna Agron for Stacy. She’d be perfect for the role. I have to admit when I first heard about news of a ‘reboot’, I wasn’t very interested. However, Sony/Columbia seem to be going in the right direction with a solid choice for director and strong casting thus far.

Spider-Man is scheduled to hit conventional and 3D theaters on July 3, 2012.
