Audiences looked strongly upon both Ben Affleck’s The Town and the comedy Easy A this weekend. The Town, which Affleck starred in and directed, opened with a strong $23.808M from 2,861 theaters ($8,322 average per theater). That’s actually the 9th best opening ever for a September debut and the film is well on its way to profitability with its $37M budget.

Audiences also made room for the $8M-budgeted comedy Easy A, starring Emma Stone, which grossed a solid $17.734 million from 2,856 theaters ($6,209/theater). Opening in third place, meanwhile, was the poorly reviewed (38% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes) M. Night Shyamalan-produced horror film Devil. The film took in $12.289 million from 2,809 theaters ($4,375/theater).

Rounding out the top five was Resident Evil: Afterlife (#4 – $10.003M / $43.894M cume) and Alpha and Omega (#5 – $9.107M – $3,469/theater).
