This news isn’t all that surprising given its impressive debut over the weekend (not to mention the after-credits bonus scene), but star Milla Jovovich told Vulture that a fifth Resident Evil film is in the works:
“This new ‘Resident Evil’ is the first one to ever open at No. 1 worldwide. It’s the biggest movie in the franchise,” star Milla Jovovich said to Vulture. “So we’re definitely going to make another one.”
As Jovovich noted, the 3D Resident Evil: Afterlife grossed a franchise record $27.7 million domestically (2007’s “Resident Evil: Extinction” opened to $23.7M) with an additional $46.2 million coming from overseas markets for an impressive $73.9 million estimated opening worldwide weekend.
