Christopher Nolan’s Inception held onto the top spot this weekend with an impressive $42.725 million from 3,792 theaters. The film was down just 32% from the weekend prior, an incredible hold for a summer action film and another sign that points to continued strong legs for this Leonardo DiCaprio-led starrer. Domestic cume stands at $142.883 million. The pic will cross the $150M mark sometime on Tuesday. Here’s the daily breakdown:
- Friday — $13.084 million
- Saturday — $16.513 milion (+26.2%)
- Sunday — $13.128 milion (-20.5%)
Salt, meanwhile, couldn’t shake its way to the top, but the Angelina Jolie-starrer still proved a solid second place for the weekend with a $36.011 million from 3,612 theaters.
The only other wide release this weekend was the family film Ramona and Beezus which finished in sixth place with $7.81 million . Rounding out the top five were Despicable Me in third place ($23.689M / $161.29M cume), The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in fourth place ($9.651M / $42.609M cume) and Toy Story 3 in fifth place ($8.917M / $379.417M cume).
