Summit Entertainment’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has set a new midnight record, grossing more than $30 million from over 4,000 North American theaters today. The film surpassed the midnight record of ‘New Moon’s’ $26.3M. ‘Eclipse’ also set a new IMAX record, taking in over $1M from 192 theaters and beating Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen ($959,000).
‘Eclipse’ has also set a record for widest opening release ever, opening in 4,416 theaters today and perhaps more by Friday. Iron Man 2 held the previous record with 4,380 theaters for its opening (with the highest-ever location count standing at 4,455 for “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”) .r
