Avatar more than doubled up on the first day Blu-ray record held by Warner Brothers’ The Dark Knight, which sold 600,000 units in North America and the UK when it was released last year. Deadline reports that Avatar sold 1.5 million in the U.S. and Canada alone.
The Avatar Blu-ray is the first of at least two more sets. Another “Ultimate” four-disc will be released this November incorporating extra footage as well as special features and a 3D release is expected sometime in 2011.
