HBO has renewed Treme for a second season. It’s a quick renewal for the critically acclaimed New Orleans-based drama, considering the show only just aired this past Sunday (and to only so-so ratings of 1.4 million in combined airings). However, it’s a fair amount stronger than the creators’ previous series The Wire, which averaged 890,000 viewers for premiere episodes during its final season and HBO is very bullish on the show:
“We would have picked up this show last week,” HBO president Michael Lombardo said. “We’ve seen the first nine episodes it’s as strong as any show we’ve seen. Much like ‘The Wire,’ the audience is so passionate and so invested. We’re about servicing our subscriber base and I believe that people will become addicted to this show. We have to be a place where this kind of excellence is given space to continue.”
Treme airs Sunday’s at 10:00 p.m. on HBO.
