Captain America short list shrinks by two; Porter & Cassidy out

Perhaps an indication that the role of Captain America / Steve Rogers in Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America has been cast (after all, the director gave a date of March 1st to conclude casting), two actors who were on the studio and director’s short list have announced that they didn’t get the part.  The two are Scott Porter and Michael Cassidy.  The two made the announcements via Facebook and Twitter, respectively:

Scott Porter: “ain’t Cap.  Thank you all for the prayers though, I appreciate them all so very much though!!”

Michael Cassidy: “@typertist No Captain America for me.”

Of note, Porter wrote that message on his Facebook account on March 1st.  If I were to guess, I’d say we’ll probably get a casting announcement sometime within the next week or so.  To recap, here are the actors still left on the short list: John Krasinski, Mike Vogel, Patrick Flueger, Chase Crawford and Garret Hedlund.

The First Avenger: Captain America is scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2011.
