Wednesday Box Office (March 3, 2010): Shutter Island ($1.65M) still 1st, but Avatar ($1.5M) inches closer

Shutter Island stayed in first on Wednesday with $1.651 million ($80.905M domestic cume), but as it closes out its 3D run, Avatar inched ever closer to first place with a very solid second place showing of $1.538 million ($710.843M domestic cume).  That was an impressive 28% above last Wednesday’s box office number ($1.202M).

It’ll be interesting to see if Avatar can make its way back into first place tomorrow, it’s last chance to achieve that mark.  It would certainly be a remarkable feat. Head on over the jump for the daily chart.
