As hinted at previously, TLC has opted not to continue their partnership with the Miss America organization and the 89-year old franchise will have to look for yet another home.
“We are happy that TLC was part of the modernization and revitalization of the Miss America pageant,” said TLC in a statement. “This year we delivered record ratings, besting any of its prior performances on cable. However, our three-year deal has concluded and we have chosen not to renew. We wish the Miss America Organization well.”
Although the pageant drew a record (for cable) audience of 4.5 million this year, it still wasn’t considered strong enough for the amount of money TLC paid for their 3-year deal with the organization (the pageant averaged 3.89 million viewers over the 3-year run).
From 1966 to 1996, the pageant ran on NBC. Then it went to ABC through 2005 and for two years on CMT before its most recent 3-year run on TLC.
