After a strong opening last Friday, Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island had a nice hold in its second Friday with an estimated $6.675 million ($59.551 million domestic cume). The film held off two openers; Kevin Smith’s buddy cop comedy Cop Out ($5.975 million) and Breck Eisner’s remake of The Crazies ($5.97 million). [Note: In the final numbers, The Crazies topped Cop Out on Saturday. Cop Out still placed #2 for the weekend. See updated chart below the jump for Friday finals].
Meanwhile, Avatar took fourth for the day with an estimated $3.1 million. That puts the film’s domestic cume at $696.005 million and the film will clear $700 million sometime tonight (in just 72 days of release). Head on over the jump for the daily chart.
