Sony has confirmed a 3D release for the still untitled 2012 Spider-Man reboot from director Marc Webb and have set the film’s release date for July 3, 2012:
“Spider-Man is the ultimate summer movie-going experience, and we’re thrilled the filmmakers are presenting the next installment in 3D. Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the world, and we know audiences are eager and excited to discover Marc’s fantastic vision for Peter Parker and the franchise,” said Jeff Blake, Chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing & Distribution
Spider-Man currently sits by itself on that Tuesday, but Paramount’s Star Trek sequel hits theaters just four days earlier on Friday, June 29, 2012. It’ll be interesting to see if Paramount shifts the movie (perhaps in combination with an announcement of it also being released in 3D). With all honestly, it’s hard to imagine Paramount not going the 3D route with Star Trek, especially given the closeness to Spider-Man.
