Paramount Pictures today announced that they’ve signed a deal with Tom Cruise to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible IV. Cruise will produce with Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams. Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec will write the script and the studio is in the process of looking for a director as Abrams will not be available.
Paramount hopes to begin shooting by this summer for a Memorial Day 2011 weekend release (Mission: Impossible III was released in 2006).
“Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to re-launch this legendary franchise,” said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey
Cruise can next be seen in James Mangold’s Knight and Day (July 2, 2010) with co-star Cameron Diaz.
