Columbia Taps Writer for The Lost Symbol

Columbia Pictures has hired British writer Steven Knight to adapt the screenplay for The Lost Symbol, the third film in the Da Vinci Code franchise.

Knight’s recent work includes writing the screenplays for the upcoming films Shutter Island and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

Based on the Dan Brown novel of the same name, The Lost Symbol reunites star Tom Hanks (Robert Langdon) with director Ron Howard. Although not as big a success as 2006’s  The Da Vinci Code ($758 million worldwide), Angels & Demons still managed an impressive $486 million worldwide and the studio has high hopes for The Lost Symbol which sold over 1 million copies in its first day of print last September.
