Avatar took in $4.191 million on Tuesday, pushing its 33-day total to $509.059 million. Including the $1.153 billion grossed overseas, Avatar stands at $1.662 billion worldwide and is in prime position to pass up Titanic‘s $1.843 billion worldwide record within the next two weeks (probably something like 9-12 days).
Finishing in second place for the day was The Book of Eli, which grossed $2.488 million, pushing its domestic cume to a solid $40.926 million through five days of release. Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones rounded out the top three with $948,043 for a 40-day cume of $21.325 million (although all but 5 days were in limited release). Rounding out the top top five was Sherlock Holmes in fourth place with $806,284 ($183.033M cume / $354.733M worldwide) and It’s Complicated in fifth place with $788,535 on Tuesday for a domestic cume of $90.963 million ($129.45M worldwide). The top 10 chart follows below.
