Update: Box Office Mojo reports that the new date is August 27, 2010. So the film has been pushed back more than 4 months (19 weeks to be exact).
The original article follows below.
The Weinstein Co. today announced that they’re delaying the release of Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3D to August, at the earliest. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on April 16th. TWC says no financial motivations were behind the delay, and that it was done simply to move it away from competing with Lionsgates’ Kick-Ass, which they say is geared towards a similar demographic.
Then again, Kick-Ass isn’t being released in 3D and although Piranha 3D will play in conventional theaters, the main selling point is its 3D aspect.
