Wednesday Box Office (Jan. 13, 2010): $4.74M for Avatar; Now #4 All-Time Domestic with $445.77M

With Wednesday’s $4.744 million gross, Avatar is now #4 all-time domestically with $445.768 million (passing Shrek 2). Although the film’s consecutive $5M+ streak has ended at 26 days, it lasted far longer than anyone ever expected.

Next on the domestic list is Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope ($460.998 million) which it’ll pass sometime on Friday or Saturday. Head on over the jump for some more analysis and the daily chart.

After Avatar passes ‘Star Wars’ this week, the next target is The Dark Knight ($533.345 million) and then Titanic ($600.788 million).

Worldwide, Avatar stands tall at $1.42 billion, well on its way to potentially beat Titanic‘s record ($1.843 billion.

On the Avatar vs. The Dark Knight front, the gap between the two films has now shrunk to just $6.12 million. Avatar continues to show incredibly strong legs and beat The Dark Knight by an amazing 67% on their respective 27th days [see chart below–click to enlarge]:

Avatar is still on track to cross above The Dark Knight on either Friday or Saturday of this week (if it’s not Friday, it’ll be within a couple $100,000).
