Nikki Finke has confirmed IESB’s scoop that there are issues with the Spider-Man 4 script and the film officially has no start date. The film has gone through several writers (James Vanderbilt, David Lindsay-Abaire and Gary Ross) and director Sam Raimi has reportedly been very vocal inside Sony that he “hated” the current script. Raimi and Sony are waiting on another version from screenwriter Alvin Sargent (Spider Man 2, Spider Man 3), but in the mean time, the film has no scheduled start date:
“It is unlikely that May 11, 2011, date will be made,” a Sony insider just told me today. “It depends on how quickly the script can get in.” However, agents have told clients in the movie to already expect the film to be pushed back.
Finke adds that despite the delay, Sony expects to release in the summer of 2011 (even if its July) and also that the studio may be looking into filming the project in 3D.
