Avatar grossed a very respectable $8.095 million on its third Monday. That pushes the film’s domestic tally to a massive $360.209 million through 18 days and an incredible $1.063 billion worldwide (#4 all-time, but it’ll pass #3 ‘Dead Man’s Chest’ tomorrow). The film had the best hold in the top 10, however this is its first day below $10M, snapping a record 17 straight days at above $10M (the previous record was 12).
Amazingly, Avatar will also hold the non-consecutive $10M+ day record as well, which was originally held by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (15 days). Avatar is expected to have several more $10M+ days before all is said and done. Rounding out the top three, Sherlock Holmes remained in second place with $2.911 million (-60.4%), while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel stayed in third place with $2.218 million (-71.6%).
