Avatar held steady on Tuesday as it passed the $250 million mark domestically with an impressive $18.291 million. That’s a decline of just 5.8% from the day prior and an incredible increase of 13.7% from the Tuesday prior. Coupled with last Tuesday’s performance ($16.086 million), Avatar now holds the 2nd and 3rd biggest non-opening Tuesday grosses.
Standing at $250.42 million domestically (and an updated $726.613 million worldwide), Avatar is tied for fifth-fastest in hitting the $250 million domestic mark, doing so in just 12 days. It also tied a record for most consecutive days at $10 million or above — tied with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen — and has a very good chance at breaking the tie tomorrow.
Rounding out the top three, the kid-friendly Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel passed the century mark with a solid $12.532 million ($100.218 million cume), while Sherlock Holmes finished slightly behind in third place with an estimated $10.24 million ($83.82 million cume).
