Irrespective of what occurs with their out-in-the-open negotiating with the popular American Idol judge Simon Cowell, the network has reportedly decided that they’ll be renewing the hit reality series for at least three more years.
The network’s current contract with “Idol” producer 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia extends through the end of the 2011 season. But the network is working on a new deal that includes three seasons of “Idol,” though that number could still change.
On Tuesday, Cowe;;’s brother Tony announced on his weekly podcast that Simon would leave American Idol at the end of 2010. One of the major hold-ups revolves around the US debut of the British series The X Factor. Cowell has to first sign the contract for that show with its owner Sony before he is allowed to sign a deal with Fox to bring the show stateside (it’s expected to premiere in the fall of 2011).
Fox is said to favor bundling Simon’s ‘Factor’ and ‘Idol’ contracts. It’s also possible Cowell could take on a smaller role on ‘Idol’.
