20th Century Fox carried the top two spots on Wednesday courtesy a solid opening day performance for the kids film Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and another impressive weekday performance for Avatar.

After an impressive performance on Monday, James Cameron’s 3D sci-fi epic Avatar held steady on Tuesday, dropping just 1.8% to $16.09M (2nd best non-opening Tuesday performance ever). That brings the film to$109.5M domestically. Overseas, Avatar continues to post more impressive numbers, adding about $55M to its tally since the weekend ($219.77M overseas).

Irrespective of what occurs with their out-in-the-open negotiating with the popular American Idol judge Simon Cowell, the network has reportedly decided that they’ll be renewing the hit reality series for at least three more years.

Warner Brothers has released the trailer for the Kevin Smith-directed action comedy Cop Out. Formerly titled A Couple of Dicks, Cop Out stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan. Watch the trailer after the jump.
